In times like these when words go unheard or unheeded, large-scale, public participatory art is an immensely powerful communications tool to change hearts and minds.
The America Remembers Fund 501(c)(3) makes possible the creation of large-scale public (and often participatory) art that engages the public in positive social change. Your contribution to this fund will help to educate, to make the unseen visible, and to enrich conversations about difficult social topics.
Our Mission
The America Remembers Fund (ARF) is a nonprofit organization that sponsors public art installations to launch dialogue and raise awareness about important societal issues affecting us all. ARF uses art and visual experiences to encourage people to reflect on and think critically about matters of public concern.
ARF’s founders believe in the power of art to move people to think differently, and more deeply, about the challenges we face in our communities and our country.
How does your contribution help?
-
We strive to create art that has the impact to educate broadly and change minds regarding various social issues. Through contributions, we are able to bypass time consuming grant application processes and create installations in a timely manner, when pressing topics are top-of-mind.
-
Support for the fund helps to place art in locations that are often out of reach for artists due to red tape, approvals, and associated costs.
-
The fund inspires the understanding that art is a critical communications tool. The artist speaks often to school and community groups about the power of art, especially large-scale, public, participatory art projects, and consults with non-profit organizations in the democracy space on how to use art to save our democracy.
-
Fund contributions go towards archival efforts after installations are finished. This is a category of art that is not "sellable." For example, all artifacts associated with In America: Remember will be donated to archival museum(s).
In this early stage, contributions to the fund primarily make the art of Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg possible, bringing installations to cities around the country.
In coming stages, we hope to use contributions to fund additional artists' in their social practices, making this type of work more accessible.
About Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg
My medium is empathy. I use wide-ranging materials and methods to create art that challenges people to think differently. Art, especially public art, is one of our most powerful communications tools when so many exist within self-selected echo chambers. My art draws viewers in with alluring aesthetics, then delivers its message.
